FSSAI License

Why register for an FSSAI License

The registration for FSSAI is compulsory for every entity as well as individuals that come under the eligibility criteria of FSSAI registration. The aim of every food business operator is to maintain food quality to ensure safety for every consumer.

All the restaurants, traders, and manufacturers who are indulged in the food business have to obtain the FSSAI license. The license is a 14 digit number printed on the respective food products.

Every food business operator must mandatorily obtain the 14 digit license number. The food business operator is required to obtain such a license if their turnover exceeds the prescribed limit.

Every food business operator also has to comply with the laws and regulations of the FSSAI Act, 2006. If he/she doesn’t comply with the requirements laid in the act, the food safety officer may cancel his/her license.

The main purpose to obtain the FSSAI license is to regulate food safety in India. In the absence of any authority, the management related to the safety of food may become very difficult. That is why the FSSAI license was created so that it can ensure food safety as well as the quality standards of food across the country.

Benefits of having an FSSAI License

  • Helps in business expansion: If the person doing business is related to foods and wants to expand his/her operation then he/she would require to increase his/her customer base. If such a person already possesses a food (FSSAI) license then it would become easy for him/her to expand his business to several locations. Furthermore, it becomes easy to obtain the necessary funds to expand the business.
  • Legal advantage: People do believe that obtaining an FSSAI license is time-consuming and costly. They often believe that the documentation process is quite lengthy and therefore many avoid the FSSAI licensing process. But in reality, the cost of obtaining the license is lesser as compared to the penalties that would be levied if the businesses are caught for non-compliance. Thus, the licensing process provides a legal advantage to businesses to operate peacefully.
  • Use of the FSSAI logo: The use of the FSSAI logo attracts more customers and provides a competitive advantage against those competitors who do not have a food license. The logo acts as a mark of assurance and validity for the consumers. Also, there are many customers who prefer to buy food only containing the food (FSSAI) license. It also helps in the development of the brand name.
  • Consumer understanding: As time is passing, consumers are becoming more aware and alert about the quality of food they consume. With the increase in healthy habits of consumers, people are becoming more and more conscious of what they are eating. Thus, the FSSAI license protects the food quality and can provide the advantage of increasing the customer base.
  • Increases the reputation: FSSAI registration aids in increasing the brand value and reputation of the business. Thus it is very helpful in the long run.
